Binger Film Lab

New Zealand writers are invited to apply to the internationally renowned Binger Film Lab for its 2010 Writers Programme

Binger Filmlab is an Amsterdam based international feature-film development centre where talented filmmakers from around the world can place both their projects and their usual working practices within an inspiring environment of fellow film-makers, to be coached and supported by internationally acclaimed mentors and advisors.

The Writers Programme is a pressure cooker development process for screenwriters and writer/directors. It challenges them to not only write an effective screenplay but also fully connect with the intention and meaning of the script to themselves and to their intended audience. Screenwriters and writers-directors with a powerful synopsis, treatment or full draft script will broaden their narrative skills and craft while developing their projects under the guidance of a wide variety of top script and industry experts. Original, adaptations and commissioned projects are welcome. This lab has the flexibility to respond to the individual needs and voice of writers and their projects.

The NZ Film Commission is able to financially support one participant to attend the Writers’  lab in 2010.

A key feature of the five-month Binger workshops are the commitment to project-driven development and indigenous voices. New Zealanders who have attended the Writers Lab with NZFC support include Kathryn Akuhata-Brown, Poata Eruera, Rene Naufahu, Rachel Davies, Gregory King, Hone Kouka, Adam Larkin, Victor Rodger, Florian Habicht, Miriam Smith, Miro Bilbrough, Sima Urale, Witi Ihimaera and Wiremu Grace.

Writers must apply directly to Binger Film Lab, approaching the NZFC for financial assistance only once an acceptance letter has been received. Please note that acceptance to Binger does not guarantee NZFC support.

Applications for the September  – January 2010 term close on Monday 15th March 2010. Application forms and further information on who is encouraged to apply can be found on www.binger.nl.

Requests for NZFC financial assistance from successful applicants should be made care of Paul Swadel  paul@nzfilm.co.nz.
