No Borders

Overview
The No Borders International Co-Financing Market is a film financing forum that takes place during the annual Independent Film Producer (IFP) Market in New York City. It provides independent producers with a real opportunity to secure financing for their feature projects through one-on-one meetings, informal roundtable discussions and social events. It is an opportunity to present fresh and compelling independent cinema projects to financiers, sales agents and international television buyers and to form strategic contacts for current and future projects. To ensure producers receive the maximum amount of exposure, the program is limited to 40 projects. Participation of producers and buyers is by invitation only.

Film Victoria, Screen New South Wales and the New Zealand Film Commission have formed an Australian and New Zealand Partnership to secure up to four places at the No Borders market to be held in New York from 19 - 24 September 2010.

As No Borders is a specialised section of the broader IFP independent feature film market, Australian and New Zealand producers can only apply to the market through the Australian and New Zealand Partnership.

No Borders is a producer forum and the track record of the producer is a chief consideration in the selection of projects.

Film Victoria, Screen NSW and the NZFC will shortlist up to three projects each from Victoria, NSW and NZ (a total of nine projects) to be considered by the No Borders IFP Selection Team in New York. The IFP team will select one project from each region to attend the 2010 market.

The successful applicant from New Zealand will be supported to attend the market.

Eligibility Criteria for New Zealand Applicants
  • The applicant must be the producer of the project and must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
  • The producer must have a track record within the film industry including, ideally, experience in obtaining international finance. Inexperienced producers are not eligible to apply.
  • The writer, director or producer must ideally have had major festival recognition or at least one feature film distributed theatrically.
  • The project submitted should also ideally have a written expression of interest from a domestic distributor or up to 20% of its market finance covered in it’s finance plan.
  • The project submitted must have creative or financial elements that strongly suggest international or co-financing possibilities.

The applicant must be the author, the copyright owner or have an exclusive option lasting not less than twelve months, with an option to renew for a further twelve months, over all the rights in the script they are submitting for consideration. The applicant will be required to submit all chain of title documentation evidencing the applicant’s right to develop the project should the project be shortlisted.
