The New Zealand Film Commission is an industry leader that fosters a diverse and inclusive environment for the Aotearoa screen sector. We are committed to actively working in partnership with Māori, to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to appropriately embracing Te ao Māori concepts and practices in our role as an industry leader and funding provider.
We are looking for an experienced entertainment lawyer to lead our small in-house legal team, based in either our Auckland or Wellington office. This is an exciting opportunity to join our diverse and inclusive organisation. If you have at least ten years’ experience in the practice of entertainment law within a large production company, studio and/or commissioning platform, deep experience in legal problem solving in relation to screen production, and you have worked collaboratively with and empowered the local screen industry, then this position could be right for you.
In addition to your legal expertise and experience, you will share our values and bring with you a commitment to promoting te reo Māori and learning about and observing tikanga when engaging with our stakeholders and partners.
The team you will lead is tasked with providing legal and business advice for the New Zealand Film Commission that is both pragmatic and commercial in its focus. You will be responsible for leading the preparation and negotiation of all contracts including screen production financing contracts, and documentation related to the production of feature films. You will also act as an adviser to the CEO to help them navigate the legal aspects of public sector screen production.
You will build strong relationships with film makers and with a range of government bodies and other screen funding agencies.
